welcome to CATURDAY!!!!!

Friends, enemies, loved ones, people who are random, I have come to a decision: I have decided to make a feature all about CATS. The idea for this feature was actually inspired by my lovely boyfriend, Corey, (who also loves getting shoutouts on the blog so HI HON), who once suggested I do a post where I match books to breeds of cats. The funny part of this is that before he met me, he was not a cat person. His first interaction with a kitty was when he came to see me the first time we dated (we dated about twice about 5 years apart, though the first time was only about a kiss and a minute) and thought my cat Bo was choking because he was purring and had NEVER HEARD A PURRR (how precious). Now, we are proud cat parents to two adorable kittens, and he loves them as much as I do.

So, recap: Caturday will be an occasional Saturday post where I match something about a cat breed to a book (or books, plural, if I’m feeling extra write-y).

The first cat type I’ll be using is the TORTISHELL HAIR, which was the kind of cat my very first kitty was.

This is what they look like:

Obviously all cats have different personalities, but in general, tortis have a reputation for being very opinionated and temperamental. This was definitely true of my first cat, who is the only cat I’ve had who ever bit with negative intentions. She was honestly not a very nice cat, though that’s not to say all tortis are like that! They are just very opinionated and…expressive at times.

And the book that I think matches these beautiful kitties?

Princess Lira is siren royalty and the most lethal of them all. With the hearts of seventeen princes in her collection, she is revered across the sea. Until a twist of fate forces her to kill one of her own. To punish her daughter, the Sea Queen transforms Lira into the one thing they loathe most—a human. Robbed of her song, Lira has until the winter solstice to deliver Prince Elian’s heart to the Sea Queen or remain a human forever.

The ocean is the only place Prince Elian calls home, even though he is heir to the most powerful kingdom in the world. Hunting sirens is more than an unsavory hobby—it’s his calling. When he rescues a drowning woman in the ocean, she’s more than what she appears. She promises to help him find the key to destroying all of sirenkind for good—But can he trust her? And just how many deals will Elian have to barter to eliminate mankind’s greatest enemy?

This is probably one of my top 3 favorite books of 2018, if not the top favorite (at least that I read this year). I really liked both Lira and Elian, but Lira was SUCH an interesting character. She is really all over the place in terms of character but in a good, dark way and you never know what she’s going to pull out (at the beginning it’s hearts out of princes’ chests, but we can all learn from our mistakes). She is wild and unpredictable and simply FIERCE. I’m not saying a torti will rip out your heart, but the temperamental thing is there, so that’s why I’m picking TO KILL A KINGDOM as the tortishell hair book.

If you have any suggestions or requests for kinds of cats I should include, please feel free to comment!
